Day 3 of 21
Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still.
When I was in the sixth grade, I was being bullied by a couple of kids that were at least one year older than me and somewhat bigger. And it was a becoming an everyday occurrence.
One day they showed up at my house on their bikes. Thankfully, my older brother was in the house. He was smaller than me but he had a temper that wasn’t easily squelched. Since there were two of them, I yelled for my brother to come out. And when he did, I simply stood behind him and let him do all the talking. He invited both the boys to come on up and get some! They chose to stay back and ride off into the sunset unharmed. And I breathed a great sigh of relief as my big brother was ready to fight for me. And I have to tell you, he would have whipped both of those boys without any of my help.
Looking back, it’s a funny story but it helps us understand the verse from Exodus. Moses was leading the people out of Egypt and they had come to the Red Sea. There was no way across and the Egyptians were closing in. They couldn’t fight for themselves. They had been slaves in Egypt and they were no match for the soldiers of Pharaoh. Yet there was the “big brother” factor.
The Lord encouraged them to just stand still. He would fight for them. And on that day, the Lord parted the water for the Israelites to crossover and when the Egyptians followed, they all drown in the Red Sea. They Lord gave them victory!
Is there something you are facing today that seems like the odds of winning are impossible? Do you feel bullied by the enemy and you need your Big Brother to come to you aid? In the authority of Scripture, I encourage you today to “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Those two guys later became my friends. The bullying subsided and we all grew up a little. I’m glad my big brother was there. He actually came to my rescue on more than one occasion. And when it comes to life and all the daily challenges, I’m glad the Lord is the undefeated champion and He is in my corner with the promise to never leave me nor forsake me. He has proven over and over in my life, He will fight for me.
