Last night I had the opportunity to go watch my sweet little niece Emileigh in her preschool program. The place was full and cameras were flashing nonstop. It was great!
I watched from a distance, a mother up in the balcony, as her eyes were glued to her child as if he was the only one in the program. It was funny to me how she was helping with the hand motions even though her son couldn’t even see her. She had obviously been helping him at home and all those motions were rolling around in her head. She smiled and laughed and her face was filled with such a proud expression. Her love for her son was obvious.
By now you are probably wondering how and why that reminds me of Good Friday?
Good Friday is the day we remember the price that Christ paid on the cross for our sins. God loved us too much to leave us in our sin. And I am so thankful.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believed in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.
Like the mom loving her son, God loved us. He even loved us with a greater love. He loved us and gave His most precious gift, His Son, while we were sinners. And today and everyday, I want to remember the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Let’s go one step further. Today, from the balconies of heaven, I think God is looking over at our lives. He is watching us, hoping we will live out our lives according to His plan. He may even be helping us with the motions, wanting us to become more like Him.
And I hope He is smiling like that mom when He looks at my life. I hope He believes that His sacrifice was worth it when He sees me. As a matter of fact, I am convinced He thinks I was worth it.
I know in my heart how much I love my children. How much more does He love us! Thank you Lord for giving yourself on this Good Friday. I pray I never forget. And I am so glad that Sunday is coming!
