It seems the disappointment continues. We build up “super stars” just hoping that with all their money and fame that they also have character and integrity. (Not sure why we assume that along with money and fame there is character). And then we see too often they are just as capable of mistakes as anyone.
More likely it should show us that fame and fortune still doesn’t prove to bring happiness and fulfillment. Both men should have more money than they know how to spend (I have a few suggestions). They both are unable to leave their homes without being spotted by the media. So they are both wealthy and famous yet seemingly still in search of more.
It is simply case and point that true happiness isn’t found in just being rich. Why? Because wealth and fame is temporary. One day both men will die and they will leave all of their money and their popularity behind. They will stand before the eternal God just like everyone else.
True happiness is found in being rich towards God. Luke 12:21 tells us – “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” And being rich towards God (or having a rich relationship with God) means making that which is temporary become a servant of that which is eternal. And rest assured our relationship with God will make an eternal difference because He is eternal.
I think we should pray for guys like Tiger and Ben. We should pray that their eyes be opened to the things that are temporary and eternal. While praying for them, I will ask God to help me take note of the temporary things and eternal things in my life.
Being rich sounds so fun. Being rich towards God sounds even better!
